IELTS Essay: Letter to a Manager
You recently attended a conference and would like to give a presentation to your colleagues about it. Write a letter to your manager and include
- The topic of the conference
- Why you want to present about it
- When it could be done
Dear Lisa,
How are you? I am writing because I recently attended a conference while I was out of town last week on the topic of marketing in the digital age. The conference pooled together a collection of researchers, influencers, and corporate figures who shared novel strategies and developments taking place recently.
I would like to do a presentation for all the employees at our office because I feel what I learned was pertinent to our current transition. We are increasing our social media presence and the majority of our marketing budget is now online but many of my colleagues are not up to date with changes in the field.
My suggestion is at the next all-staff meeting, I can take a 10 minutes slot before or after lunch to go over the key points. It should not take much longer than that as I can send out my notes and some research articles by email afterwards.
Let me know if you think this is a viable idea.
Regards,
Abdul

You want to arrange a conference for your company, and you need to ask one of your colleagues to give a presentation in this conference.
Write a letter to your colleague. In your letter include:
Details about the conference
Why you want your colleague to give presentation
What arrangement will you do for this conference
My question is- Shouldn’t this letter be in formal tone? In my understanding it is a formal request in a formal setting of office.
Hi Ekta, yes but a letter to your boss can be semi-formal.
This one is more formal than informal – you can see there are no contractions and the language is polite.
Which part do you think is too informal?
