This is an IELTS writing task 1 sample answer essay from IELTS Cambridge 15 on the topic of a process/diagram about manufacturing instant noodles.
You might notice that the word count on mine is a little low (131 words).
IELTS no longer has a word count and this one was so simple to write about that it is under the 150 students usually expect to write.
Try to hit at least 150 but if you describe the process fully and it is under, don’t worry about it – it’s not your fault!

IELTS Writing Task 1 Sample Answer Essay IELTS Cambridge 15: Manufacturing Instant Noodles
The picture details the manufacturing process for instant noodles. Overall, this entirely man-made operation can be divided into 4 main stages beginning with storage of raw ingredients, assembling the dry noodles, cooking and finally packaging for later consumption.
Instant noodles start in storage silos where the flour is kept. The flour is transported, along with water and oil from another source, to the mixers and rolled into sheets of dough beginning the assembly line steps. These sheets are cut into strips with factory machinery and then formed into compact ‘Noodles discs’ to be fried in oil, left to dry and ultimately placed in cups along with assorted vegetables and spices.
The final preparation step is to label and seal the contents so that the end product is ready for retail.

Only 130 words??Why?
There’s not a lot to describe in this one!
There is no longer a required number of words for IELTS tasks so if you describe it and it is a bit low then no problem.
For most Task 1s, aim for around 175 words.
Could you please provide the source of information that mentions not requiring a minimum number of words in IELTS writing?
I tried so hard but couldn’t find anything related to your claim. Even IELTS.org states that at least 150 words are still a requirement.
It was not a public announcement, you can read about it here: http://blog.myieltsclassroom.com/new-ielts-word-count-rules/
But why do anyone wants to take a risk? Its better to target for 150+ and no matter how less content is available, it not hard to cross that line.
That’s right, Arnavi.
But it isn’t a risk – IELTS clearly states that they don’t subtract for the word count.
For this one, it is hard to get up to 150 – you have to make it extra wordy and that is a risk.
But it is very rare to have one like this where it is hard to get to 150+!
Does that make sense, Arnavi?
Very well and Excellent
Thanks – I appreciate it!
Excellenttt
Thank you!
The picture illustrates the manufacturing process for instant noodles, and it shows 8 main processes of manufacturing. It starts with storing of flour as a first step and labelling as a last step.
Overall, this entirely man-made operation can be divided into 4 main stages beginning with storage of raw ingredients, assembling the dry noodles, cooking and finally packaging for later consumption.
Flour is the main ingredient of instant noodles, it is stored in silos. The flour is transported with trucks to mixers where water and oil are added later onto the mixers and rolled into sheets of dough as initial steps. These sheets are cut into strips with factory machinery and then formed into compact ‘Noodles discs’ to be fried in oil, left to dry and ultimately placed in cups along with assorted vegetables and spices.
The final preparation step is to label and seal the contents so that the end product is ready for retail.
