IELTS Essay Task 1: Prehistoric Tools
The diagrams below illustrate early toos from 1.4 million years ago and 800,000 years ago. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and making comparisons where relevant.
The diagram presents a comparison of prehistoric tools dating back 1.4 and 0.8 million years ago. Overall, the older tool is less refined with rougher edges, while the newer one appears smoother and better preserved.
Comparing the two tools from the frontal view, the one from 1.4 million years ago is slightly narrower, displaying a less defined shape. The more recent one comes to a sharper point with clearly rounded sides.
The side view reveals that the older tool is also bulkier with more jagged indents than the much smoother one from 800,000 years ago. Finally, in terms of the back view there is a distinctive contrast as the newer has fewer major cracks and closely mirrors its front side. The older tool, on the other hand, is approximately half the size overall and is chipped down greatly in the back.

Writing Practice
Write about a similar process below and then check with my sample answer:
The given diagram illustrates the information about the ancient components which were discovered around 1.4 and 0.8 million years ago.
Overall, tools that were found around o.8 million years ago were more symmetrical in comparison to the tools that were discovered back 1.4 million years.
To start with, the tool that was found 1.4 million years back was entirely non-symmetrical in shape while a similar tool which came into existence 0.8 million years back occupied water droplet like structure. Besides this, the side view of the same tool was similar to the flame of a candle but it seemed that no proper handwork was done on it while the tool that was encountered o.8 years back was of similar shape as of a candle flame. Moreover, from the backview of the tools that were found in different years looked like a triangle with a minor difference in their symmetry and shape.
Interestingly, both the components of ancient time were of similar size which was 5 cm.

How many vocab words used in task 1?
150 words
do you know 2021 as well
I collect the past ones, future ones are all scams, Meri!
Is i not supposed to be Dating back TO?
Thanks Iveta – you can drop it due to ellipsis!
Moreover, the word count is unacceptable to be an example as the task was not achieved with only 145 words.
Therefore, I see this website as unreliable for IELTS preparation.
Iveta, there is no word limit – you can write longer. I don’t know where you heard that, but you can check the official IELTS.org here: https://www.ielts.org/-/media/publications/information-for-candidates/ielts-information-for-candidates-english-us.ashx#:~:text=You%20are%20required%20to%20write,250%20words%20for%20Task%202.&text=There%20are%202%20parts.,information%20in%20your%20own%20words.
150 words is recommended but generally 175 or so is best!
but you completed your task one essay with only 145 words which will affect your score. It would be lot better if it had a conclusion at the end.
Hi Kumar, you should aim for 150-175 but there is no longer an official word count for IELTS. You can check on IELTS.org – you just need to write fully about the topic.
